After nearly two years of writing and editing, The Campaign Handbook is nearly here! And we have a release date: Tuesday 5 November, exclusively on DriveThru RPG.
Running a grand campaign is exciting, but it’s also hard work. Most games are lucky to make it past Tier 1, and even the best DMs can burn out somewhere before level 10. I wanted to build something that makes the whole process easier: a framework that helps you structure your story beats, improvise with confidence, and actually reach 20th level without losing momentum.
What started as a ‘what if?’ is now The Campaign Handbook: a practical toolkit of more than 200 pages to guide you from first steps to the ultimate final boss. Inside you’ll find:
- Prep lists for every session: monsters, NPCs, secrets, treasure, and more.
- Frameworks for structuring longform stories without writing a script.
- Tools for improv and worldbuilding that keep your prep light but effective.
- Advice for running every stage of play, from village mysteries in Tier 0 to multiverse finales at 20th level.
This isn’t a railroaded adventure path where every group has more or less the same experience. It’s very much a framework: scaffolding where you need it, freedom and flexibility everywhere else.
Justin Alexander of The Alexandrian, and USA Today bestselling author of So You Want to Be a Game Master, very kindly offered this quote, which captures what I was aiming for:
‘This is the step-by-step, level-by-level guide to building your D&D 5th Edition campaign you’ve been waiting for. It’s a menu, a mood board, and an endless source of inspiration.’
The book is now in final edits and layout, with cover art by the brilliant @pootlings. I’ll be sharing a few preview pages and DM tools over the next couple of weeks.
